This document explains howto restore a single mailbox from an exchange backup using granular restore.
Prerequisites:
1. Netbackup version must be 6.5.3 or higher
2. The exchange backup must be taken with granular backup support.
3. Exchange version must be exchange 2003 or higher (actually you cannot do a granular backup unless you have exchange 2003 or higher)
4. For this example client restore should be allowed on master server properties.
Restore Procedure:
1. Open “Backup, Archive and Restore” and select “File -> Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Type” and “Policy Type for restore” to MS-Exchange-Server and click OK.
2. Choose “Restore from Normal Backup” from the drop-down menu “Select for Restore”.
3. Choose any mailbox under “Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes” in the restore window according to your needs. You can choose multiple mailboxes and other sub-folders from each mailbox at the same restore.
4. After choosing, click “Start Restore of Marked Files”
5. For a normal restore procedure, just click on “Start Restore” and restore will start. If you want, you can choose to overwrite mailboxes or restore to another place as well..
6. If everyting goes as well, your restore will be successfully completed and you will be able to access restored objects as needed.

It might be worth mentioning NetBackup requires Exchange Granular images to exist on Disk before being able to restore them. Images existing on Tapes need to be duplicated to Disk prior to doing the restore.
