Prerequisites:

1. Microsoft Services for NFS must be installed on exchange server.

Plug-in you Windows 2003 server CD to your Cd-Rom and open “Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components”

Choose “Other Network File and Print Services -> Details” then choose “Microsoft Services for NFS” and Click OK

Exchange Backup for Granular Restore

Microsoft Services for NFS will be installed. After the installation is complete, ensure that Client for NFS is running and Server for NFS is stopped and disabled on every client.

2. On the client (Exchange server) NetBackup client service must not be working under Localsystem Account. This is not allowed for nbfsd activity.

Create a new account (nbuadmin in our example) on your domain controller and make this a member of the “Domain Admins” group.

Then open Services and right-click “NetBackup Client Service” and under “Log On” tab, choose “This Account” and enter account informations like “nbunbuadmin” note that username is entered under nbu domain…

3. Both Master server and the Exchange server must be updated to NetBackup 6.5.3 before proceeding.

4. Exchange backup for granular restore is only available on Disk storage groups (Not available on tapes or vtls), so a disk storage must be created if not already…

Policy Creation:

Open “Backup Policy Configuration Wizard“, enter policy name (ExchangeBackup in this example) and choose “MS-Exchange Server”

On “Client List” page, enter your exchange servers Fully Qualified Hostname

On “Backup Selections“ Page, Click “Add” and click  “Remote Folder” and select “Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:“, “Microsoft Exchange Public Folders:“, “Microsoft Information Store:”

On “Backup Type” page deselect “Incremental Backup” as Granular restore for exchange is only available on Full Backups.

Select “Rotation” and “Start Window” according to your system and click “Finish“.

Right-click on your policy and “Policy Storage Unit/lifecycle policy” to your “Disk Storage Unit” (Disk1) and select “Enable Document Restore”
